This year my sister turned 30, and on her birthday weekend (the weekend after we went to Prague), we took a trip to the Finger Lakes in upstate New York to celebrate! It was just my sister, brother, me, and our significant others.
We went hiking, and we tried fun wine, but the best part of the whole trip was that my sister got engaged! Steve and Shikha have been together for almost a decade and it’s about damn time. lol.
When we got back from the Finger Lakes, we had to have a pooja (prayer service), and an engagement party, so we rallied the family and did just that. Usually, rallying the family means my mom’s side since my dad’s is still in India, but lucky for us, one of his sister’s was visiting and she was able to attend as well. We started with a pooja in the morning at the house. That means that all of the furniture in the back room is moved out of the way, blankets are laid on the floor for all of us to sit comfortably, the statues of our gods are moved from the temple room to the back room, and a priest shows up to oversee the service. This is us getting started.
Of course, a pooja also means sitting for a very long time, and obviously, I have family that isn’t as patient as the rest of us.
But in the end, it was a lot of fun. My sister, my bestie, and I then went to get our hair done, and we got ready for the engagement party. The party was a small gathering of just family members from both sides of the fence. Steve’s mom dressed up in Indian clothes (she was so cute), and we, of course, went all out in our attire.
We are so excited for my sister’s wedding! This is nothing compared to the awesomeness that will be happening when the actually tie the knot. Let me put it to you this way: we had to talk my father out of getting drones for aerial photography. Subscribe to my newsletter (link above) for updates on family drama and wedding festivities!
Until then, stay filmy!
